Artist''s statement: “The painting has its origin in a sad and final event. My father was diagnosed with colon cancer in the fall of 1987. He was given a year. They were right, he died on September 8, 1988. I spent the last summer with him on the farm preparing studies. The painting was started immediately after his death. I wanted the painting to reflect both the rock solid straight forward life of a farmer (my father) and the unpredictable, unsettled, tilted, cramped reality we call life. He died at home in his chair.”", "Images": [ { "ImagePath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/images/1997.009_Low-Res.jpg", "ThumbnailPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Thumbnails/1997.009_Low-Res.jpg", "PreviewPath" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Media/Previews/1997.009_Low-Res.jpg", "IIIF_URL": "http://iiif.gallerysystems.com/1997.009_Low-Res.jpg", "IsPrimary" : "1", "_SurrogateID" : "3509", "Image_Type" : "", "Photo_Credit" : "", "Remarks" : "", "View" : "" } , ] },{ "embark_ID" : 1283, "URL" : "https://webkiosk.gallerysystems.com/Objects-1/info/1283", "Disp_Access_No" : "2002.002", "_AccNumSort1" : "", "Disp_Create_DT" : "2000", "_Disp_Start_Dat" : "2000", "_Disp_End_Date" : "2000", "Disp_Title" : "My Mother", "Alt_Title" : "", "Obj_Title" : "<i>My Mother</i>", "Series_Title" : "", "Disp_Maker_1" : "William Beckman", "Sort_Artist" : "Beckman, William", "Disp_Dimen" : "72 x 49 1/4 in.
