Ko Kirk Yamahira

(American) Ko Kirk Yamahira is a Seattle-based artist, raised in Los Angeles and Tokyo. He is known for his unique process of deconstructing paintings that involves the removal of individual threads from the weave of the canvas. By converting surface into form, the artist presents new ways to see classically modern shapes. His work inhabits the entire space, hanging from wall and ceiling, revealing the original bones of the painting while creating softer, elegantly draping forms.

Yamahira’s first solo museum show, Ko Kirk Yamahira (Feb. 17 – June 3, 2018) debuted at the Frye Art Museum in 2018. His work has been included in the Frye Art Museum exhibition, Recent Acquisitions in Contemporary Art (Sept. 11, 2021 – Jan. 23, 2022)
